My fellow Musketeer, BKM, sent over the wagon today so I can jump back on. Need to make sure I'm in securely and may use the super glue this time.

I can't believe it's July already. My cousins wedding is at the end of the month. I've ordered my clothes. Also there's a work BBQ the night before. It should be an enjoyable time spent with my family.

I've started using EA Sports Active for the Wii. OMG were my arms/thighs sore after the first 2 days. Unfortunately things have been so hectic I haven't had a chance to get on it again, but I'll get on it again soon, I promise! Other than that, nothing strange to report. My aim for today is to stay within points and get some form of exercise.

Bank Holiday Weekend

Well it's finally here, the bank holiday weekend, and it's a scorcher! Summer definitely took it's time this year. Had a bit of bad news on Thursday, which didn't help my mood for the weekend. I ended up taking some 'personal time' from work to sort things out in my head. Starting to get there. Fortunately I have the support of a wonderful OH, who came down to visit for the weekend to help me through it.

So... The plan for today is to go for a walk later and rack up a few BPs. Made a lovely salad for lunch and to be honest with the hot weather (and other things) I haven't been really hungry, so plenty of points left for the day. I'm making a bit of progress towards getting back to where I was and am nearing the 5% mark again. This time I'll be continuing towards 10% and onwards to goal.

Not yet looked for an outfit for my cousin's wedding in August. I'm waiting a bit longer to see how much more weight I can shift.

Heineken Cup

Had a wonderful weekend in Edinburgh for the Heineken Cup final (and Leinster won!!). Unfortunately WW went out the window while I was away. Had a SP on Sunday when I returned to see a 3lbs gain, but luckily by WI today I'd a .75lb loss.

The weather is finally starting to brighten up, and today feels like the first day of Summer. Had physio this morning (arm still hurts, so hoping that'll wear off soon), and then a visit to the Chiropodist this evening. Bit of an incident on the buses in Scotland aggravated my ingrown toenail.

Was a bit lazy last week and didn't cycle to work, but now the weather's a bit better I've no excuse, so tomorrow it's back on the bike. I'll just think of the BP's.

Bank holiday this weekend. but I'm working - so won't be falling into temptation much. I'll be off on Monday and Tuesday so planning on some batch cooking.

Post Valentine's

Seem to have gone off the rails a bit after Valentine's weekend. It started with the takeaway and just escalated from there. Weighed in yesterday, hoping for a STS after the disaster that was my week. Jumped onto the scales and lost 4 lbs! Now that was a shock to the system. So got my silver 7 to reach the 1 stone mark, and also got 5%. Yay me!

Unfortunately it lead to a celebration - the wrong kind. Pancakes! In preparation for next week I made a batch, with maple syrup. OMG they were to die for. I totally enjoyed them. Got up today determined to stay on track and raided anything that wasn't tied down.

On the bright side, I did cycle to work tonight. Thighs are feeling the burn a bit, but I felt pleased I actually did it. Will be cycling for the weekend and hopefully that will wipe the slate clean. It's approx 25 mins each way.

Valentine's Weekend and first day shift

Had a wonderful Valentine's weekend, stayed in with OH, had takeaway Chinese, watched lots of TV and racked up a few BPs.

Yesterday was the first Day shift since I returned to work. I decided to cycle. Made it in about 25 mins, so was pleased with that. On the way home last night, the lights went on the blink, so didn't cycle today. Need to get to the shops tomorrow for batteries. Other than that, the day went well. Managed to stay within points (barely!) and generally feeling pleased with my efforts. Last time on the scale (2 weeks ago) was a STS, so hopefully this time will show a loss. Slowly but surely.

Nothing major planned for my 2 days off this week. Have physio on Wednesday and WI on Thursday. Hopefully meeting a few friends too if I can. Working a weekend of night shifts, so will have to plan the food wisely. Anyone got any suggestions?

I did manage to read some inspiring stuff on the Men's Arena on the WW boards. I might even try some of it!

Finally back to work

I've now re-joined the work force. Bit of an overload going from recuperating to full 12 hour shifts, but it's going well so far. Since I'm back to work, and with shiftwork, I'll be weighing in every 2nd week and using a weekly points allowance instead of a daily one. That way hopefully it'll compensate for when I'm awake a lot before my first night shift of the week, and asleep a lot after my last night shift of the week.

Nothing else has been happening. Looking forward to the weekend, nothing major planned... possible a pancake making spree!

A Biblical Adventure

So yesterday, went to get my X-Ray results and get certified to go back to work after the crash, when the doctor told me that some sort of heart abnormality showed up on the X-Ray. He referred me to a cardiologist. I rang to make an appointment, and decided to enquire how much the appointment was. Was I in for a shock! €440. While, yes, I have VHI, and can claim it back at the end of the year, it's still a whopper of a charge. Especially as I've been off sick for the last 7 weeks and have hardly any money and still bills to pay.

In a moment of madness then last night I decided to go and see "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat" in Dublin. Asked OH if he wanted to go Friday, but he couldn't get off work early to go. Then decided to ask my sister. She said either Saturday or Sunday were good. I decided on Saturday, all the while thinking that there was something else happening. Once the tickets were booked, I realised it - The Ireland V France rugby match in Dublin! What a dilema. As the tickets were non-refundable, the decision was made...

Just back. What an adventure. Got to the station this morning at 8:35am. Planning on getting the 8:55 train. Not a hope in hell due to the match. There was a chance to get the 10:24 train, but they couldn't guarantee a seat. Bearing in mind that the journey takes about 2 and a half hours, and the show was starting at 2pm, it was cutting it tight. We decided to get a bus. Bus takes a bit longer, slightly over 3 and a half hours. They couldn't guarantee it would arrive on time due to weather conditions and match traffic. We had just missed the bus by 5 mins, so the next one was 9:30, due into Dublin for 13:10.... cutting it tight if there were any delays. I met a lovely nun on the bus and she was giving us advice of how to get there should we be pushed for time. The journey was spent praying that we'd arrive on time - and we did! Then the mad scatter to get to the box office to get our tickets. Made it there with 20 minutes to spare - phew!

The show began, and I was spellbound. I'd only ever seen the DVD version with Donny Osmond, and this production was fantastic. One of the finalists from "Any Dream Will Do" was playing Joseph. We had such a laugh, and they played a medley and a few extra songs at the end. The audience were going wild. It finished just after 4 and then we quickly nipped into McD's for a big mac and then quickly to the train station. Got the 5:05 train, just as the match was kicking off, but had regular calls from my sister giving me reports on how well we were doing.

All in all, it was a fantastic day.

Slightly gutted today with a STS. I'd been so good, may have had 2 bad days, but I never went over points and with the WW Kitchen Scales, my portions are fairly accurate.

Just gotta concentrate on the coming week, and make sure this doesn't lead to a blow-out. Met one of my friends at the meeting today, was nice catching up. Trying to have a good day.

Second weekend on track.

I actually managed to have a second weekend on track. Even went so far as to have a Chinese takeaway on Saturday night and only eat half of it! I kept the other half for Sunday. It was definitely an achievement.

Off for some more Wii Fit in a while to boost this week's loss. Hopefully it'll be another good one. I've been really motivated and determined this time.

Friday saw me back to the doc and he sent me for another x-ray. I should hopefully have the results either Tuesday or Wednesday. He also changed my painkillers, although they're not a whole lot better than the last lot. Maybe it's just a case that I need to have them build up and over time I won't notice the pain. All going well, I'll be back to work next week.

I've a few ideas for dinner and might even get a chance to make more muffins. They were delish! I'll post the recipe soon.

Mixed emotions

Certainly a bag of mixed emotions today. I'll start with the great news. Went to WI and lost 4.5 lbs! I was shocked. I knew I had a great week, but not that great! God bless the Wii Fit. My OH will be down at the weekend and he'll be bringing the new "My Fitness Coach". I don't know if I'll be able to do all of it but I'll give it a try.

I was trying to use the gym ball, and just basically lying down with my legs on the ball, but I wasn't able to do even that simple lying there. It hurt my ribs a lot! So there I was writhing in agony on the floor, almost crying from the pain. Hopefully soon there'll be no more pain. I also found out today that the scooter is probably a write-off. I was a bit taken aback by that news. Even though I doubt I'll be driving scooters again, I had imagined that I'd get it fixed and sell it.

Dad has gone for Fish and Chips (pointed of course!), and I'm looking forward to enjoying them. I was also on the 5+ boards, and found a wonderful recipe for banana and malteaser muffins which I'm going to try tomorrow. That should be a treat, and they work out at 2.5 points per muffin. I'll let you know how they turn out.

After the weekend...

Well, after surprising myself by staying on track for the weekend, I've been hanging onto the wagon by my fingernails!

Tonight I'm heading to see my niece in her school's performance of "Anything Goes". I'm looking forward to that.

Got my weigh in tomorrow, so looking forward to that. I might try to pick up a few boxes of WW toffee bars.

First weekend on track

Surprise surprise, I managed to stay on the plan for the weekend. This must be like the first time ever! I think things are finally starting to click.

Still not sleeping well at night. Hoping by the end of this week that'll change. Had physio this morning, which hurt like hell. I'm hoping that as the days go on, I'll be less sore.

I've been pleased with my progress so far. I'm actually looking forward to weigh in on Thursday. Now that's a new one! Imagine looking forward to weigh in? I think it just goes to show how focussed I am to get to goal.

I'm off to bed soon, and hopefully a full nights sleep will follow.

What a blessing the Wii is

Just done my morning exercises on the Wii. Feeling really pleased with myself, and the stretches are really helping with my ribs. I'm even starting to enjoy the jogging! I really like the fact that it looks like I'm going somewhere, rather than jogging on the spot. I also unlocked the last of the yoga poses. Some of them I'll keep until I feel a bit more flexible. I tried the sun salutation today, not able to touch my toes, but one day I will.

So far today everything's going well. I've been posting on the 5+ boards. I'm not able to sit at the PC for long periods of time as I start gettting stiff, but it's nice to be able to see what's going on in the WW world. Also read a few blogs which I found very motivational. Saturday is a day I usually fall apart, but I'm trying to stay on track today.

Dad brought home a nice surprise - Thai Sweet Chilli Velvet Crunch - yum! They're great for a snack attack and now even my mum loves them. They're having lasagne for dinner today, so I'm going to have a small slice. The WW scales are at the ready to point it. Then it's time for the tefal actifry to make a few chips, and that'll be my fairly healthy dinner. At least I don't feel like I'm eating differently to my family and I don't feel deprived.

My newest discovery this week was the Be Light sparkling water from Aldi. I'm loving the apple and raspberry flavoured one the most. It's less than a euro a bottle (much cheaper than 7 Up Free) so in these times it's the obvious choice.

Well, gotta go get a few things done and I'll blog some more later.

January 23 2009

Well so far today is going well. Still a few points to use up, but I'm staying on track. I'm really feeling happy with myself.

Started off this morning with more Wii Fit. I can really feel my ribs stretching when I'm doing the yoga poses. This is helping with the exercises the physio told me to do. They're still tender and hurt at night, but hopefully they'll get better soon. Most of all I want a full night's sleep.

I've also discovered the joy of Tayto Velvet Crunch. They're delish! They work out at P1 per pack. Now that's a good value snack! I can see that they will become a store cupboard staple. Even the dogs loved them.

I think I'll be having an early night tonight, I'll scour the magazines for inspiration for tomorrow's menu and maybe make some mango sorbet as a treat.

January 22 2009

Rejoined Weight Watchers last week and had my first weigh-in. Lost 4 lbs. I was quite pleased with it considering I wasn't the most disciplined this week.

Had a crash before Christmas, and my ribs are still very sore. To the point of not being able to sleep at night from the pain. Being at home surrounded by food didn't help over the Christmas and with other family problems I managed to eat all round me. Still, last week I decided to go back to classes and do something about it.

Starting Week 2 has been a bit better. I've managed to stick to points today, and feel I ate fairly healthy and still managed to squeeze in a treat. I'm going to take it one day at a time. I'm doing the yoga on the Wii Fit to help with stretching my ribs. It's quite sore to stretch, but hopefully between that and physio it'll get better soon.

I was reading the WW UK forums this morning when I came across this pearl of wisdom. It was in response to a poster who was disappointed at her 1 lb loss:

Hello, do you know me? If you don't you should. I'm a pound of fat, and I'm the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet. Want to know why? It's because no one ever wants to lose me; I'm Only One Pound, just a pound. Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds or fifteen pounds, but never only one, so I just stick around and happily keep you fat. Then I add to myself ever so slyly so that you never seem to notice it, that is until I've grown to ten, twenty or even more pounds in weight. Yes, it's fun being Only One Pound of fat, left to do as I please. So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying "Oh, I only lost one pound." ( as if that were such a terrible thing!) For you see, if you do this you'll encourage others to keep me around because they will think I'm not worth losing. And I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you. Happy Days!! After all, I'm Only One Pound of fat!!!
